With a full spec of high-performing, no-fuss components to suit a regular rider's budget, the new Stumpjumper Comp Carbon 29 could just be the bike for you. With the same frame as the S-Works and a full FACT 11m carbon chassis and rear-end, this bike will be ragging trails just as fast as its top-end brothers.
A telepathic connection between bike and rider was the ultimate goal when designing the new Stumpjumper. This harmonious communication all comes down to stiffness, so to improve the connection between bike and rider, we got working on improving the materials, shapes and layout of the Stumpy.
To achieve super-stiffness, we created our own unique, mountain-specific stiffness test and then used Finite Element Analysis to see where improvements could be made in the frame's layout. We happened across something massive: more front-end stiffness was needed in the Large and X-Large frames, while the Small and Medium models were just fine. This discovery allowed us to create a frame that may just prove to be one of the lightest frames on the market and is 20% more efficient.
To compliment the Stumpy's stiffness, we developed a revolutionary sidearm design, keeping the front-end and rear-end connected and super stiff at three points on the frame. The new design shaved a substantial 100 grams off the rear end, while also minimising frame flex when the rear suspension is active.
A custom Rx Trail Tune on each Stumpy keeps suspension at the top of the priority list. As wheel, frame and rider size all have an impact upon suspension performance, the Rx Tune is key to getting each bike landing in the centre of the adjustment spectrum. The Tune is fully customisable and platform-specific, helping to maintain perfectly linear suspension throughout the range.
A lot of focus was also placed on the versatility of this bike more importantly, making it an easy machine to live with. A threaded bottom bracket and clearance for a 3.0 tyre make the Stumpy a versatile beast, customisable with a wide array of upgrades. As the bike uses standard metric shocks, you have complete freedom to select an aftermarket rear shock of your dreams.
A lighter, sleeker SWAT box with increased volume complements the Stumpy build, while a Flip Chip allows for geometry customisation. For a 6mm drop in the bottom bracket and a half-degree slackening of the head tube, just flip the chip' and you're ready to continue blazing the more technical trails.
We've also added a ribbed chain stay protector for all you drivetrain fanatics who adore a smooth, silent operating system. To make internal cable routing simpler, full tubes can be found throughout the frame allowing for a simple push' of the cable on one side, and pull' on the other to get it out. Frames full of magnets, pokey spokes and frustrating maintenance sessions are now a thing of the past.
The Stumpy Comp model boasts a list of high-performance components that promise to deliver unwavering quality. The Shimano SLX drivetrain is boosted with RaceFace cranks, plus Shimano SLX disc brakes, FOX front and rear suspension, and Roval Traverse 29 wheels. This spec emphasises the Comp Carbon 29's undeniable high quality, while maintaining a price point that will get the enthusiast grinning from ear to ear.
