๐Ÿ“ How to Choose the Right Size

Getting the right size is key to making sure your child feels comfortable, safe, and excited to ride.

If you can, visit us in store

We always recommend bringing your child in for a quick fitting โ€” our team can measure them and help them try out different models to find the perfect fit.

If youโ€™re measuring at home

If you canโ€™t make it in, hereโ€™s how to get an accurate measurement:

  1. Measure your childโ€™s inside leg (inseam):
    • Have them stand against a wall, feet flat and slightly apart.
    • Place a book between their legs (like a saddle) and measure from the top of the book to the floor in centimetres.
  2. Match the measurement to the Ridgeback size guide:
Inside Leg (cm)Approx. AgeRidgeback Wheel Size
36โ€“41 cm2โ€“4 years12″ / Scoot Balance Bike
40โ€“48 cm3โ€“5 years14″
46โ€“53 cm4โ€“6 years16″
52โ€“59 cm5โ€“7 years18″
57โ€“63 cm6โ€“8 years20″
62โ€“72 cm7โ€“10 years24″
70+ cm9+ years26″

Tip: If your child is between sizes, go for the smaller bike. Itโ€™s easier (and safer) for them to handle.

๐Ÿ” What to Look for in a Kids Bike

When comparing bikes, keep these features in mind:

  • Lightweight frame: Ridgebackโ€™s aluminium frames are easier for kids to control.
  • Proper brakes: Small, easy-reach levers help children build confidence and safety.
  • Single vs. geared bikes: Single-speed bikes suit beginners, while gears are great for older, more adventurous riders.
  • Adjustability: Look for adjustable saddles and handlebars so the bike grows with your child.
  • Quality components: Ridgeback bikes are built to last โ€” meaning they can be passed down to younger siblings.
